A few weeks ago a prospective volunteer for Botswana emailed me, asking about my experience and the program here. She was offered an invitation and was debating on whether to accept.

It wasn’t until she asked what I wished I had know before I left for Botswana that I realized how jaded I am. To her question I replied, “that there’s no way to make a difference. If you really want to make a difference stay home and help kids that are struggling in a system where you understand the rules and the culture they need to follow to succeed.”

I should have sent her this instead. This has a much more positive spin on things.
