So I am sitting in the dark writing this and my battery is about to die. Just wanted to rant about Botswana’s power situation. Botswana used to buy power from South Africa, but South Africa can’t even supply enough electricity to its own nation, so three years ago they told Botswana that by the end of 2012, they would cut them off.
Botswana was supposed to build its own power station, but of course, like everything in this country, it’s behind schedule.
In rural areas like mine it’s not that noticeable since the power already goes off a lot, but in more urban areas people don’t know what to do. At grocery stores everyone just sits there, they won’t sell you things until the power comes back on. It’s crazy. The station is 1 1/2 years behind schedule so it will probably be like this for the rest of my service. Time to get more reading done I guess!
